A balcony as small as it may be, it doesn’t cease to be a balcony. Especially during spring and summer, it gives us the sense of coolness we seek (of course most of the times it’s a fictitious sense – we live in Greece – ha-ha), it addresses our need to escape from the 4 walls of our house, even for a while. Personally, in the summer, I find an evening on the balcony very refreshing, especially when we are stuck in the city because of work.
I decided this year to make our balcony a little more functional (and a bit more colorful, as you will see). The furniture that we had created a lack of space and made the balcony even smaller. We had to move chairs and tables in order to walk in the balcony.
After I decided to make over my balcony, I thought to change the style of it. I said no to the classic wooden furniture and before I even started looking for the options I had, I’d decided that I would get white furniture and add color with pillows and plants.
In a small balcony like our own, any classic lounge or outdoor dining room would look bulky. So I ended up with a small table with 2 chairs to eat our breakfast, drink our coffee or even eat our lunch.
An armchair (my beloved one) to hang out (we’ll probably fight about who’s going to sit there) and two stools that serve either as tables or as extra seats.
The total renovation (if I can say so) cost did not exceed €250. I consider it to be a relatively economical amount if you think that it includes the cost of the furniture (from IKEA), the pillows, the pots and the plants (since the previous ones have all been destroyed by the cold of this year’s winter).
Now there is a little free space for us to move comfortably and Melina can take her toys outside and play on the balcony that she likes so much.
About the recipe of the homemade lemonade that has a central role in the photos, there will be a related post the next few days! Stay tuned!
